MICHEL BOUREZ FROM THE ROOTS OF SURF TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD
51m
In 2018, Michel Bourez started his tenth season on the world surf tour. The documentary Michel Bourez, from the roots of surf to the top of the world, retraces his exemplary and exceptional path. From his birth on the island of Rurutu, in the Austral archipelago, passing through his first waves in Mataiea, on the west coast of the island of Tahiti, this film highlights a life entirely devoted to surfing at most high level. An example of success.
Through exclusive interviews, enriched with original documents relating to his childhood, we learn why the Tahitian Michel Bourez is nicknamed the Spartan, how he reached the World Tour in record time, how he manages his family life while spending eight months per year outside French Polynesia and how he returned to its best level after a serious accident at Teahupo’o in 2015.
Produced in partnership with the World Surf League, with the support of Air Tahiti Nui, this documentary which required a year and a half of work, includes original and exceptional sequences.
Karim Mahdjouba, director of the film, followed Michel Bourez on surf trips to the islands, but also during stages of the World Surf Tour, from Fiji to France, via Teahupo’o and Hawaii where he won, in 2016, one of the most coveted titles on the surfing planet, the Pipe Master.
After his victories in Australia and Brazil, this victory in Hawaii confirms that the goal of the Spartan is achievable: one day become world champion of surfing.
This film is part of the official selection of Fifo 2018, in Out of Competition category. He was also selected at the Anglet Surf Film Festival and the Portuguese Surf Film Festival
